My ex from years ago added me on msn. I'm not sure whether to accept him or not because he's good with computers (not extremely good but good enough, he hacked into my hotmail account once before) and he may be trying to send me a virus I think.

Is it possible for him to put a virus on my computer or do me any harm if I simply just accept him on to my msn list but I never accept any files he tries to send me?

Yes. It installs itself, usually by the plug-ins you use, like messenger with Media Player, and the Smiley Central, in your system folders, with msn message window> in this case notice also, that it installs so you may use it with many programs on your PC.

Yes, it can install itself in other ways, like through files transfered through msn. Once passed through infected msn program the file I found was infected and can be blamed on wild blue internet or more specifically software that must be written by each user to use on someone else's msn.

Hope this helps....

If he is sending you any viruses , MSN will first ask you to download that file which contain the virus which you must decline. The virus cannot enter your computer without first downloading it.

For more precautions , enable your firewall and enable any

anti virus while chatting.

And i don't see the point of adding your EX as a friend if you think your computer may be at risk.

No it is not possible that if you add him onto your list he can hack his way into your computer. Also that depends your definition of "not extremely good." I am betting though that it will be almost impossible to hack into your computer if your computer if you are running adequate anti-virus software. I would also like to say that if he is to send you a file (any type but especially a *.exe) to be cautious when opening it, or better yet, don't open it at all. Word 2007 will prompt you if you want to run macros when you open it. (A macro is a handy tool that allows you to do common tasks with the click of a mouse.) If word prompts you if you want to run macros click the disable feture because while handy they might contain viruses that could ultimately destroy your machine.

very likely but if you are careful you can avoid it. Dont open anything you dont know what it is. Always use a virus program running in Real Time.
