Msn Live won't sign me in, but gives no error message!?

I recently downloaded Msn Live, but when i try sign in on it, it just stops signing in and returns back to the sign in page, it doesn't give me an error message as to why it wont sign in, but when i go to Tools, Connection, it says 'you are currently not connected to the .NET messenger service.' what does this mean? and how can i fix it? PLEASE HELP!
