e-cards. are the e-cards on msn and yahoo free or do I need to join and pay?

the 123 ecards are free but when I bring up the birthday cards and others on msn and yahoo it seems as if they are asking me to sign up . whether that means that I pay or not i'm not sure. Can anyone please tell me?

They are free but then they have access to the email addresses of your friend who you send e cards to and then they get SPAM.
