Instant Messaging e-Buddy risks?

In the past, I've used MSN as an instant messaging service, but have had problems with computer viruses that have come through via other people's computers.

One of my friends recommended e-buddy as an alternative service.

Are the risks the same, or is e-buddy any different/safer to MSN Messenger?

A lot of people get tricked into clicking on links and downloading malware. The infected user's system automatically sends links to their instant messaging friends. Whatever messaging software you use, you and your friends should have an agreed to format of how you'd word a message to let them know you indeed sent them a known good link, or you can agree never to send a link! I've emailed a friend back asking did you really send me this on purpose. If you follow those steps, I'd say it wouldn't matter which one you used.

most / all of the viruses that you can get from msn are when people send you infected pictures files or links to websites. Therefore they would still be able to send you the viruses or files on ebuddy. Therefore the risks are the same and Ebuddy isn't any safer. You just need to know whether to click them or not its simple. If your unsure of what somebody is sending you ask them if they actually sent it, if they say that they didn't send anything its most likely a virus. Always confirm what it is before you accept it. Ebuddy is good, but i prefer msn. :)

There isn't a risk of getting viruses from other people unless they are sending you infected files and/or you don't have a good anti-virus i recommend avast but in that case yes the risk would be the same.

i have a friend who uses e-buddy, at work (her works computer blocks MSN)

she loves it.

there are viruses that are written to exploit MSN, and they will work even if you use another program - like e-buddy - to access the MSN network

basically, MSN or e-buddy (or yahoo or AIM) is only as good as your anti-virus program. be sensible with any 'shared files' or attachments and have a good AV, and you should be OK

An digital mail is deliver and ignore, you dont prefer the different individual online on the time ,which you do for instantaneous messaging ,notwithstanding if it extremely is on the spot.yet on the spot MESSAGING could be an identical IN function AS digital mail IF THE RECIPIENT isn't online, the on the spot MESSAGE WILL THEN BE further while they log on.the only authentic useful distinction then ,is that the digital mail can arrive a while later ,while the IM is at log on.
