I have an MSN e-mail and a Hotmail e-mail, and oddly enough, I can log-in my MSN e-mail just fine. But the exact same thing is happening with my Hotmail e-mail and my sister's Hotmail e-mail. It's apparently a Hotmail thing. I also have a Gmail e-mail, but I still like Hotmail the best because I can sort my mail into folders and have e-mails from certain sites directly sent to a specific folder.



If MSN doesn't fix this, they will be in BIG trouble with BILLIONS of Hotmail users! I really hope this gets fixed ASAP!

None of the solution posted here were really solutions, just dumb luck. MS was having issue with LiveID and that was the cause of the issue. I Twittered about it and that was the response form Microsoft cares. 10 minute later both my hotmail and live accounts worked (with nothing being done on my machine). And I did not lose any emails.



As far as everyone who seems to hate MS hotmail, don't use it nobody forces you to. For as many email accounts as hotmail hosts for free this is the first big outage I can remember in quite some time. And I have a gmail account also and seem to remember a pretty big outage for them in the past year. So nobody's perfect.



The important thing is they got it fixed, no data was loss and the outage was not extended for to long. What more can you ask from a free email account. If you want 24/7 guaranteed service the ante up and pay for an email service, otherwise shut-up and quit complaining.

It's always great to know that you're not going through strange and slightly frightening things alone. Not that that makes the loss (and I'm hoping like hell that this turns out to be the furthest thing from a loss of all that beautiful data we've coddled over the years) any less horrific, but, you know, it's oddly comforting to know that we're suffering en masse. Together always was a more attractive word to me than alone. I’ve tried to log into my account at least six or seven times in the last two minutes. I kept thinking “Apparently, I’m typing in the wrong information, even though I've been using Hotmail for more than ten years now.” Idiocy, I thought. I'm not certain of the number of messages on the head, but I do know that I've got at least eight hundred important bits in there. I do hope that this is all fixed by tomorrow. Exactly what advantage does the Hotmail of 1998 have over the Hotmail of 2009?

It seems to me that a problem of this magnitude, which will probably amount to nothing more or less than a technical glitch, (let's hope so) should've been robbed of its potential years ago.

OMG! The same thing is happening to me right now, too! I have a "hotmail" e-mail address, and the last time I logged in to check my e-mail messages was at about 10:30PM Eastern time on 4/9/2009, and my inbo was there and everything was normal. However, less than an hour ago, I logged in again and my inbox was just GONE. I have been sick and crying my eyes out ever since, because I have an inbox FULL of the most important & sentimental e-mails anyone could ever imagine. My inbox is one of the most important things to me in he world! It's saying (every time I try to log in) that "You do not have an inbox yet, sign up for one here." Since it appears as if many, many other users are having the same problem all of a sudden, I'm hoping it's just a temporary glitch that MSN will have repaired within the next few hours or so. Until then, I am going to remain very ill. Let's keep our fingers crossed, and hope this gets fixed soon! Hotmail had a corrupted web file that caused most inboxes to be unacessible for a while and probably won't be the last time this happens in your life, based on my Tech experience.

Big web companies like Hotmail probably have virtuals servers that store emails for an X amount of time in case something happens so people won't lose their emails.

I was able to get to my hotmail emails because I have Microsoft Outlook setup to receive my emails from hotmail. Before hotmail didn't used to allow that, but now we CAN! via Outlook connector that you can download from Microsoft website.



By the way, hotmail is working now. :)

Oh thank god! I'm so glad to know it's hotmail and not me! I was so sure I had a virus, because wouldn't that just be so my life.



I freaked when it said I had to sign up again, I got through once - thinking it was an upgrade or something - and it asked me for my Windows Live ID and, once typed in, it told me it was already taken - duh, by me! All the other times my "Network Timed Out."



I'm so glad someone posted this question, I was going to break something soon. I think the only thing we can do now is wait it out and hope hotmail fixes the problem. And soon.



I did manage to teach my roommate a few more swear words though. So... some good came out of it, lol.

This morning I checked my Hotmail and it was working just find until I checked it agian before I went to bed its said that I dont have a inbox yet when I already have a account with hotmail. The same thing is happening to me.



I have been using hotmail for the last 8 years, and have never had this problem.



There is a constant loop. It says "You don't have an inbox... yet." The only option given is to "Sign up for Windows Live Hotmail". When I click that there is an option that says "Already a Hotmail..... member? Click here." This link simply brings me back to point A where it says "You don't have an inbox... yet."

Well, I hope it's not a Jacker attack to the hotmail servers, it might be just a temporary maintenance to the servers. Because when I try to use the hotmail acount it directs to a page with the message "you dont'n have an inbox yet, etc...." but when I try to use the live account it simply refreshes the page. I don't think they have a solution to this problem yet. 04-10-2009 12:55 AM Eastern time.

You are not alone. I just tried to sign on too and got the same crap. I am praying to God this isn't a virus. I, like others, have had a hotmail account for maybe over 15 years and never had a problem like this. I can't even write to customer support for Hotmail because I am too frustrated and freaked out to actually search for where to write. I'm going to reboot, and if that doesn't work, pray.

This also happened to me, and when i clicked the "Already using Hotmail, Messenger, or Xbox LIVE?" i logged in normally and it still sent me to the "You don't have an inbox" thing.



I also noticed some people said something about a Conficker?

I'm a Mac user and from what i know the Conficker only affects Windows users, so i guess that's not it.

I had the exact same thing. I also have been on hotmail for over 7 years, and nothing like this has happened. I am not going to freak out too much yet though, sometimes these things get sorted out. I am having the same problem with my hotmail and live.com accounts. From what I understand, the conflicker virus is a Microsoft Windows virus. I'm working from a mac...

I've been a hotmail user for probably close to 10 years now. I just signed up for a gmail account.

wow, i'm having the same problem! I wonder if it's conficker, too. At first I thought someone had hacked into my hotmail acct., but now that I see I'm not the only one, I think it's something else. I, too, hope I haven't lost all my saved messages, etc. Everyone I know has had that email acct. for the last 10 years, and if it's lost, I'd have to remember every single person and company I've given that email addy to and contact them all with a new one! I feel so much better that it's not just me. I was just about in tears when I decided to try and google my problem since nothing I tried on hotmail/msn would work and it also kept saying that my supposed email address that I don't have isn't available. I've been using my email all day and then all of a sudden it tells me to refresh my page and then I'm told I don't have an inbox but all of my contacts are there.

I have the same problem. I had recently received a message from messenger the other day telling me to change my id and when I was trying to it wouldn't let me. So I had emailed them about it and I had received a reply back earlier today. I was going to check the email out and this was the problem that happened. I hope this is fixed soon. I am gonna send another email and ask what the hell is going on. Cause I've had this account four a good three years.

I just signed in on msn messenger and clicked the little icon in the messenger box to take me to my hotmail inbox and instead it opened outlook which I've never used and never will.

Finally I just went to hotmail and signed in the old fashioned way and it say's I don't have an inbox. All my contacts are there though.

Something tells me this is conficker.

I hope my 10 years worth of saved emails aren't gone forever. Or maybe it's for the best. Been meaning to clean it out for....... 10 years.

I might have found out an answer for you to get into your e-mail inboxes at hotmail. I came across this web site after I posted my message here on Leo's web site. The person said to stop your antivirus and try to Sign In. I did just that and it worked. All 4 of my accounts were there with all of my e-mails too. My antivirus is back on. OMG!!!!! Just realised, within the last 40 minutes of this question being posted, already 218 people have replied! Feels great to know I'm not alone. My sister tried hers, so did my dad. They're having the same issues...contacts still there, inbox no longer exists. For me though...the damn thing won't even accept my password!!!! I changed it last week, when I had my account hacked! The hacker sent emails to ALL my contacts advertising a fraud electronic store website, then deleted my contacts' list (8 years of a list archived to perfection...first names, last names, middle names even, phone numbers, primary/sec/tertiary email addresses...all gone!). I was able to recover all the email addresses and their full names through my sent mails....but the list was still gone! I called microsoft...howled at their poor customer service...then went back to using the damn thing the next day since I was left with little choice (8 years worth of emails in there). I figured I should consider switching to outlook just yesterday...but couldn't figure out how to set up the thing. And today...poof...it's all gone. What's worse in my case is though, that my password is no longer accepted either!!!! God help us all!!! *fingers crossed* Lets all pray it's only a server error and things go back to normal for most of us by tomorrow morning. And...by the time my message is posted to this thread...I expect to have another 3 replies right after mine...that bring the count to 221? *sigh*

Apparently, my Outlook had somehow signed in online. Once I exited outlook and logged in at one of the suggested addresses, I didn't receive the "you don't have an inbox....yet" message and went straight into my inbox.

This happens every year. and sometimes even every many months. Someone gets daring and hacks into the Hotmail Servers and messes around with them. At the end of the day. All your emails will be there when they fix the problem. Its a pain in the but dont get me wrong. But dont be worried. they will be there. It takes anywhere between an hour -4 hours to show up.

I have the same right now. The good thing is that I can still access my inbox through my iPhone. All my emails are still there. I just sent a test email to my hotmail address and it right away showed up in my inbox. So at least it's still working, and everything is still there.

Something must be wrong on Hotmail's end. I emailed suport, which was very hard to do! If anyone else wants to I clicked on Help Center on the lower right and then clicked on a generic question. at the bottom on the answer side there are three faces, happy, medium, and sad. I clicked on sad and a field came up where you can submit text. So i explained the situation and gave them my yahoo email. hopefully if they dont fix it on their own soon they'll let me know what to do. it makes me realize that i really need to not use hotmail anymore, im totally screwed if this doesnt fix itself. so many lost docs. crap.

I checked my email about 10 hrs ago; no problem. I have a lot of billing information for several companies that goes there. I have had hotmail since I was 10; so it's 11 years worth of stored information I have on there... This in addition to the day before yesterday when maintenance was being done at 3:00 Central for an hour, causing me to turn in a paper late. To get your emails, make sure you are logged into hotmail, and go to



mobile.live.com/hm/folder.aspx



which is hotmail mobile. You can then see your emails, without images. People can also get on with iphones. It doesn't seem to be an IE or Mozilla issue specifically, I tried with both and still had the same issue.

Haha..I was like "WTF" at first too, but I keep receiving emails to my blackberry as well for both my Hotmail accounts, so obviously the inbox still exists. It'll probably be fixed soon...hopefully :)

The same thing happened to me just minutes ago. That inbox is full to the brim of all my information for college and scholarships and everything I've ever made a sign-in name for. Ok, people earlier in this thread stated that they CAN get into their Hotmail accounts via iPhone and all the e-mails are still there. So it must be something that doesn't affect the iPhone netowrk but does affect desktops and laptops. The important thing is that they report the e-mails are still there. I think that's a good sign.

i have a perfect logical explanation, I would assume windows live having tech problems right now. Not only has this happaned world wide, but windows is not even giving a crap about what happened. Folks, Have patience, Cross your fingers....



This has happened before and then again now.

I am getting the same error as of yesterday. Just prior to this message I noticed this error that said something like the site is undergoing maintenance.



My guess is that hotmail is migrating to the latest exchange server and that comes with the usual set of architecture and migration of millions of user accounts such as yours and mine. It might take a few days given that we are all free customers, It might never happen as possible the migration expert dumped all our .pst files. Assuming that each hotmail account is held in .PST files.



This is just my guess and theory. Anyways , I always try to duplicate mails and have it stored in yahoo, gmail etc... That way if all the corporations conspire to eliminate free email users, at least there might be one dissenter who will provide free email.



Until then , user a free tool like thunderbird or other email client to download all the emails as soon as you have obtained access. ..

I see we all have the same problem. If it makes anyone feel any better, while I haven't been able to get into my inbox via IE or Firefox, I could access it from Outlook (using the Microsoft Connector only) and Windows Live Mail, so I think all of our messages are still safe. If you have MS Outlook installed, you may download and install free add on "outlook connector" from microsoft website, then configure your hotmail account and start sending/receiving mail from your hotmail account. Its a temporary solution , but no other choice now.

WINDOWS GOT HACKED!!!!!!!!! I was able to bypass it though. Go and download windows live mail. Its the app. You can use that to bypass the login and get your emails that you need.
